Our costs are assessed on a time-recorded basis. For more junior solicitors the hourly rate is £240 + VAT and for more senior solicitors of over 8 years’ experience the hourly rate is £280 + VAT.
Prior to commencement of proceedings, our estimate of costs and timescale is as follows:
Taking your instructions, evaluating the evidence, considering preliminary issues and reporting to you by email – Costs: £500 – £1,500 + VAT; Timescale: 2-4 weeks
Drafting and sending the letter of claim to the other party (the Defendant) once approved by you – Costs: £150 – £1,500 + VAT; Timescale: 2-4 weeks
Considering the Defendant’s response, reporting to you and advising on the next steps – Costs: £150 – £750; Timescale: 2-4 weeks
Negotiations with the Defendant, to include reporting to you and taking your instructions – Costs: £150 – £1,500; Timescale: 2-4 weeks between each communication from the Defendant
Commencement of proceedings
Drafting Claim Form and Particulars of Claim and issuing the proceedings – Costs: £2,000 – £5,000 + VAT; Timescale: 2-4 weeks for us to send drafts to you for approval; thereafter submitting to the Court for issuing and service on the Defendant by the Court.
Applying for Judgment on acknowledgment of debt or in the absence of a Defence – Costs: £50 – £250 + VAT; Timescale: the Defendant has 14 days from service to file an acknowledgment of service and a further 14 days thereafter in which to file a Defence. In the absence of either being filed and served we can request Judgment by default after 14 days have elapsed.
Please note that the above estimates of costs and timescales are intended to represent the average range of costs. Actual costs and timescales may differ depending on the facts and circumstances of the case.
Court Fees on the Issuing of Proceedings
Claims of up to £300: £35.00
Claims of between £300 – £500: £50.00
Claims of between £500 – £1,000: £70.00
Claims of between £1,000 – £1,500: £80.00
Claims of between £1,500 – £3,000: £115.00
Claims of between £3,000 – £5,000: £205.00
Claims of between £5,000 – £10,000: £455.00
We shall require payment on account of the court fee before submitting the Claim to the Court.
