The Ministry of Justice has launched a new online tool that allows people to see the length of time it takes for cases to be heard in courts across England and Wales, enabling them to see how the justice system is working where they live. The Open Justice website gives detailed court-by-court data relating to family, civil and criminal court proceedings.
This is the latest initiative from the Ministry of Justice that aims to improve the transparency of the justice system by publishing information in a more accessible way.
As well as giving information on courts, the Open Justice website gives details on local reoffending rates and sentencing. The data on the length of court cases for family, civil and criminal proceedings is based on the latest quarterly court statistics published by the Ministry of Justice on 12th January 2012.
