A talented athlete has received £77,000 compensation after she was hit by a negligent driver as she cycled to work.
The incident took place in February 2013 when the woman was cycling along a main road. The motorist was driving towards her from the opposite direction. He turned right across the road into a side street and then collided with the woman.
She was thrown from her bicycle and sustained several serious injuries including fractures to her spine and wrist.
As a result of her injuries, she had to take time off work. The woman had been training hard for the 2013 World Athletics Championships. However, her injuries ended her career.
The woman sought damages, claiming the motorist had been negligent on several counts. These included driving without due care, failing to heed her presence and right of way, and failing to keep a proper lookout for cyclists.
The motorist admitted liability and agreed to an out-of-court settlement of £77,000.
