A man who was hit by an uninsured driver has been awarded £37,000 compensation.
The man, who was 19 years old at the time of the incident, was standing by his car when another driver reversed into him.
He was trapped between the two vehicles and the skin on his lower right leg was torn away from the tissue.
The man needed a skin graft, which left scarring to both his left thigh and lower right leg.
He required physiotherapy and had to walk on crutches. He needed help with everyday tasks such as washing and dressing for two months after the incident. The skin graft was also itchy for two months. His mother had to take six weeks off work to care for him.
He had to take four months off work and could only return on a part-time basis. He worked in a golf shop and had to prepare equipment. This was extremely difficult for him and he had to leave two months after returning to work.
He was unable to play football and cricket, which he had enjoyed prior to the incident, and had to wear protection on his leg when playing golf.
The man was awarded compensation of £37,634 from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau in an out-of-court settlement.
This figure covered his pain and suffering as well as his loss of earnings.
